Peptides, Informational Substances, Epigenetics and Metagenetics

Peptides, informational substances and cell biology, genetics and epigenetics

Written by Dr Arien van der Merwe (www.DrArien.co.za)

Following is an explanation to understand your own healing process, by restoring the natural pattern of programming for health in our own DNA.

Informational substances or peptides: the molecules of emotions

Working with your subconscious feelings and beliefs are important for sustainable and long term management of any health challenge

‘I suggest that the body and soul react to each other in sympathy. A change in the state of the soul would necessarily have an effect on the body and vice versa’.

– Aristotle, 400 BC

‘Our thoughts create our reality’. This is a strange concept for many of us. How could what you think, possibly make you sick or well, happy or unhappy?

Candace Pert is ‘n neuroscientist who did extensive research on the neuropeptides over many years. She was the first to call them the ‘molecules of emotions’. Pert originally identified the opium receptor sites on cell membranes inside the brain, for endorphins, already in 1972. She realised that if morphine works as a pain killer, there had to be a similar molecule inside the human body, otherwise morphine wouldn’t have had a specific receptor to bind to for its pain killing effect. Endorphin was this molecule! The receptor sites for the peptide, endorphin, were first identified in the brain, hence the name neuropeptide. We now know that peptide receptors are found throughout the body, and they’re now known as peptides or informational substances.

Peptides are miniscule pieces of protein. Protein comes from the Greek word ‘proteios’, meaning primary. Proteins are the first material of life as we know it. Peptides consist of strings of amino acids of varying lengths, joined together in a necklace by very strong bonds made of carbon and nitrogen (refer to the images in chapter 2). Between 10 and 100 amino acids that form a strong bond, are called peptides. Between 100 to 200 are called polypeptides and more than 200 are called proteins. Amino acids are the letters that when combined in certain sequences, form the words that are peptides, or the sentences that are polypeptides or proteins. These make up a language that forms and directs the function of every single cell, organ and system inside the body, from the deepest vibrations of the DNA molecule inside the nucleus of every cell, to the macrocosmic systems function of the whole individual being. About 120 peptides have been identified so far, associated with mood changes, nerve, hormone and immune regulation. Well known groups of peptides include the neurotransmitters that carry messages across synapses in the nervous system, growth factors, gut peptides, immune system modulators (e.g. interleukins, cytokines, chemokines, growth inhibitors that tell cells when to stop growing). A better term for the peptides might be informational substances. Other common peptides include the endorphins (our own happy hormones), insulin (responsible for blood sugar control), vasopressin (responsible for blood pressure), sex hormone releasing hormones, serotonin (the feel-good neurotransmitter)

There are 20 essential amino acids found in the human body. ‘Essential’ means that we have to take it in from the food we eat, as they’re not manufactured inside the body. The first peptide, secretin was discovered in the gut. This surprised scientists as they thought all physiological functions were controlled purely by electrical impulses from the brain and nerves. Then the endogenous endorphins, enkephalin peptides that bind to the body’s own opiate (morphine-like) receptors inside the brain, were found. This lead to a mad search for receptors and their binding peptides inside the brain, hence the pronoun ‘neuro’peptides. It was only realised much later that every single peptide was made in many parts of the body, including of course, the brain. Now we know that the peptides are actually manufactured throughout the whole body, e.g. immune cells, heart, bone marrow and gut cells have receptors for, and produce, peptides. The heart’s cells, as well as the T & B-cells of the immune system communicate with the brain and vice versa via the peptides. Some emotions suppress lymphocyte (immune) function, others may enhance it.

All the peptides have a similar molecular structure, with subtle differences in the tertiary structure, meaning that only the frequency and amplitude at which each molecule oscillates (wavelike vibrations of electrons in each molecule), differ. Peptides change configuration (like a chameleon) due to emotional influence, according to specific thoughts and emotions. Depending on the thoughts and emotions, specific peptides are made in the brain and nervous system, white blood cells, reproductive system, digestive system and heart, to name but a few. They form an ongoing two-way network between psyche and soma, mind and body.

The complicated and complex communication network between cells, neurotransmitters, peptides, hormones, immune system, blood and nerves, demands a remarkable orchestration of effective communication and integration of form and function, for the body-mind to work as one healthy, balanced and integrated whole.

Pert describes the mysterious energy connecting body to mind and emotions as the free flow of information carried by the biochemicals of emotion, the peptides and their receptors, information substances. The strong link between emotional responses and the biochemical change they produce specifically in the immune system, forms the basis of the field known as psycho-neuro-immunology or PNI. Cortisol secreted during long term stress, plays a role in immune suppression, inflammation and the chronic diseases of lifestyle, of which diabetes is a major example. Conversely structural changes in the feel-good peptides play a role in immune incompetence and have a positive effect on all systems of the body. Pert says: ‘it is possible now to conceive of mind and consciousness as an emanation of emotional information processing, and as such, mind and consciousness would appear to be independent from brain and body’.

Notice how the heart rate differs based on two very common human emotions. Gratitude, or appreciation leads to a slower, more coherent heart rate. We can choose in any moment to run the gratitude frequency circuitry inside our minds, to have a positive effect throughout the body and every single one of our 50 trillion cells, as well.

Let’s simplify the concept by using practical examples. The specific feel-good peptide (e.g. serotonin or dopamine), bind to its specific receptors on the cell membranes. This sends a ‘feel-good’ message to the inside of the cell, right into the nucleus. The message influences every function the cell is responsible for, including the functional expression of the DNA molecule. Now consider the fact that you constantly think of things others have done to harm you, or you feel stressed out and overwhelmed, life is hard and unfair, there’s nothing to enjoy, life is no fun, with unhappy, resentful, angry thoughts and feelings that grow and increase to disproportionate levels every time you think about it. The thoughts become emotions, then the biochemical informational substances or peptides, that course through your body-mind, influencing your mood, your cell function and efficacy. Do you think that any cell receiving these messages for 10, 15, 30 years, would still feel like functioning well enough for you to be optimally happy, alive and fully self-actualising to become all you’re meant to be?

Working with your subconscious feelings and beliefs are important for sustainable and long term management of any health challenge

Confucius said: ‘If you devote your life to seeking revenge, first dig two graves’. Your cells feel the way you do! Your thoughts do create your reality! What you spend your time thinking about, becomes the facts of your life.

Emotions like bitterness, unresolved anger, resentment, fear and worry constantly trigger your stress response. These then become buried in ever deepening layers inside the cell memories. The layers become the physical footprints of your dream body, psyche or soul, manifesting in unhappiness, mood swings, and eventually, physical illness or chronic health problems.  Once the cell memories are awakened, they can reach the conscious mind, so that you can make contact with your whole, integrated human beingness, leading to allowing and releasing the deep issues that might play a role in the disease process. Through this, disease becomes a teacher potentially leading to important life lessons, personal and spiritual growth and healing from the inside out. The choice and free will to follow this path, is yours! You can become all you’re meant to be: successful from the inside, out!

Peptides cause chemical changes in the body that can improve or weaken the immune system. Once immune cells receive the stress response alarm, they undergo changes and begin to produce powerful chemicals. These substances allow the cells to regulate their own growth and behavior, enlist the help of other immune cells, and direct these to the areas of invasion or other trouble spots. Studies show that the HIV virus interferes with a peptide associated with feelings of self-esteem. In one study, patients with full blown Aids, who had therapy to boost their sense of self and strengthen emotional bonds, survived statistically longer than expected. We’ll be looking in more detail into diabetes and the peptides, the molecules of emotion, in a later chapter.

Establishing which emotions affect which peptides will be the best treatment for all modern day illnesses! This forms the basis of deeper healing work.

The whole range of human emotions are valid and worthy of your complete attention. Become aware of your emotions, welcome them, maybe feel them somewhere in your body, then choose to let the ones who don’t serve your health and wellness any longer, go – it can be as simple as that! It starts with becoming aware of how you’re feeling in this present moment, right now.

·         Anger, fear, sadness, hate, resentment, guilt

·         Joy, contentment, courage, love

·         Basic sensations: pain, pleasure

·         Instinctual drives are very powerful, but deeply subconscious drivers of behaviour: thirst, survival, instinct, cold and hunger – the last 2 being especially important as deeply unconscious saboteurs in weight release efforts as the deep need for protection and support, yearning to be loved, protected, cherished and adored. These have to be made conscious before being released. Diabetes, often associated with overweight or obesity, can be linked to similar trapped emotions.

·         Intangible, subjective experiences that are uniquely human: spiritual inspiration, awe, bliss. There are many dormant nerve links between the primitive limbic system where the emotional centre of the brain is, to the pre-frontal cortex where spiritual intelligence and unconditional love reside. Waking up these cross links will help us to become the spiritual, loving beings we truly are.

As an example of the practical implementation of the peptides, molecules of emotion, or informational substances, let’s consider the endorphins and some ways to feel good.

Endorphins

The brain produces its own peptides, the endogenous opiates (e.g. beta-endorphin). These chemicals are produced in the brain in response to a variety of stimuli. Endorphins were discovered in 1975. Distress and pain are the two most common triggers for release of the endorphins. Activation of the opiate receptors in the brain by the body’s own endorphins, do not cause addiction or dependence, whereas exogenous opiates, such as morphine and codeine, do lead to addiction and dependence.

The effect of endorphins on the body-mind:

  • decrease in pain sensation
  • feelings of euphoria
  • appetite modulation
  • release of sex hormones
  • enhanced immune response
  • fewer negative effects of stress

Enhance your own endorphins:

  • Regular exercise where you push yourself a little. This is the runner’s high, or being in the zone, athletes experience after prolonged exercise.
  • Breathing techniques. Changing the rate of your breathing, allows the respiratory centre to become flooded with endorphins. This is why yoga breathing techniques are so effective. Examples include full yogic breathing (belly-chest-collarbone); diaphragmatic breathing where you breathe in slowly and deeply, holding the breath, then releasing it, making the out breath longer than the in breath; or breathing in deeply, holding it and breathing out fast and forcefully through the mouth. Sit down if you do this to prevent dizziness, and do only 5-10 breaths.
  • Certain foods, like chocolate (preferably dark chocolate with 70% cocoa beans), and chili peppers can enhance the secretion of endorphins.
  • Through acupuncture, massage therapy and regular meditation practice
  • Last but not least: making love is a potent trigger for endorphin release! So remember next time you have the ‘headache’ – there might be a quick fix!

Become aware of your habitual thought patterns – thoughts do create reality!

Where are your thoughts? Anxiety, fear and worry are mostly in the future over which you have no control. Unresolved anger, bitterness, sadness, guilt, resentment are in the past. You can only learn from, grow and let go of the past. You can never change it. So why waste your precious life force energy there? These thoughts prevent you from being in the present, the NOW, which is all you have. Thoughts lead to molecules of emotion, or feelings, that often manifest as physical reality, symptoms, disease and habitual behaviour. Try journal writing as a very effective thought management tool that can help you become aware of, allow and then release unpleasant thoughts and feelings.

How to feel good!

Experience gratitude, tune into what you do have and appreciate in your life. This will lead to moments of joy and happiness: our birth right feelings that lie deep within our souls, connecting us to Source/God/Higher Self. When we’re joyful we feel connected to our deepest truth, our authentic selves; in flow, in the stream of wellbeing – surrender, trust, let go (not similar to ‘giving up’ at all!). Experience the shift from left brain to right mind, then realise how you are able to master your own emotions, even for fleeting moments, by making a conscious and deliberate decision to feel better one moment at a time!

Now a bit about epigenetics (Era II Medicine) and taking back one’s power – it’s not all in the genes!

We are not the victims of our genes, our DNA or the sins of our forefathers. Genetic potential versus inevitability. Soul lessons. Releasing errors in thinking from receptors on the cell membranes.

Epigenetics: ‘epi’ means ‘above’ or ‘over’ the genetic information encoded in the DNA.

The emerging field of epigenetics (epi = above) is showing us that the cell membrane and its receptor binding sites, supersede the genetic code and can restore cell function, even genetic in origin. The environment of the cell is ultimately responsible for the efficacy of cell function through selective binding to receptors.

To recap:

Cell membrane section enlarged with cytoplasm (cytosol) interior of cell and section of nucleus with DNA

Cross section through a typical  cell

The cell environment includes nutrients, oxygen, water, the vibrations of thoughts and emotions via the molecules of emotion (peptides or informational substances), and ultimately our sense of our soul connection to our Source or Inner Being, to encourage a higher vibration of molecules binding to receptors on cell membranes (field of metagenetics). Understanding this, will help us know that we’re not helpless victims of our genetic heritage, but powerful beings who can take charge of our own health and wellbeing, by changing the environment of the cell, to ensure correct and effective messages enter through the cell membrane, right into the nucleus and DNA, where transcription for protein synthesis, and ultimately cell functions, take place.

Decide today to CHOOSE to change your inner and outer life for improved health enhancing behaviour. Chronic illness (such as diabetes) when regarded as health challenge, is often the first prompt to search for deeper meaning, realising what is important in life and then making the necessary adaptations for a healthier lifestyle. Genetics do play a part in illness by determining the physical weak links, that is, the physical system where it will manifest first by way of symptoms, such as ongoing increased blood sugar levels. If you take care of the epigenetic environment however, the genetic expression can, and will, be changed, or never even express.

Epigenetic direct environment – all of which is in our control to manage and optimise:

  • Water – the interior of each cell is water
  • Oxygen: Breathing – if we breathe properly, cells get more oxygen for energy and cell function)
  • Nutrients, micronutrients (food as medicine) – the healthy, super foods we eat or drink, provides fuel and support for all optimal cell functions
  • Hormones, communication (ligand or primary messenger, informational substances)
  • Thoughts, emotions: vibration of molecules of emotion – the mental-emotional and spiritual aspects of health, also the ligands or primary messenger molecules, IS)
  • The cell membrane is therefore the true brain of the cell
  • Epigenetic environment is the area of hope and control over our own health, wellbeing and DNA expression

We are not the victims of our genes!

DNA was discovered, identified and found to be the hereditary, or inherited, genetic material in the mid-20th century. The belief system at the time was that our genes were like blueprints that self-regulate and lead to the assembly and function of the proteins that make up a human being. Refer to the table on Era I Medicine. This is the model of genetic determinism or being controlled by our genes, that has been the predominant thought for the last 100 years. Life was controlled by genetics.

The fundamental belief called genetic determinism literally means that our lives, which are defined as our physical, physiological and emotional behavioural traits, are controlled by our genetic code. This kind of belief system leads to human beings being victims. If the genes control our life function and health, then our lives are being controlled by things outside of our ability to change them. This leads to victimisation and the helpless belief that the illnesses and diseases that run in families are propagated through the passing of genes associated with those attributes. Laboratory evidence shows this is not true!

When we buy into being a victim, we automatically buy into needing a rescuer, meaning we accept that somebody else is going to save us from ourselves. This is the unfortunate situation the medical community finds itself in.

As Dr Bruce Lipton (author of ‘Biology of Belief’) said in a recent interview: ‘The genetic determinism belief system has been revised over the past fifteen years, however, these revisions are being recognised only at the level of the biomedical research scientists and are not making their way to the public. In the meantime, the mass media continues to portray that ‘a gene controls this’ and ‘a gene controls that’. Published papers on cell biology are still interpreting research findings through the model of determinism, reinforcing the erroneous idea that science will rescue us from our own genetics.

He further states that from one single gene, epigenetic regulation can provide for 30 thousand different variations of expression. Therefore, it’s not about one faulty gene expressing as one inevitable code for a specific illness.

Scientists undertook the ‘Genome Project’ sure they were going to discover 150 000 genes because their model was based on genetic determinism that each gene controlled one character of the human being. Since proteins build our physical and behavioural traits and there were over 150 000 known proteins, they expected to find 150 000 genes. One gene for each protein was their model. Instead, only 23 000 genes were found! Now we understand that each gene can produce over 30 000 variations. To understand the potential variations of genetic expression you could multiply each gene by 30 000 possibilities. A genetic inherited mistake, is therefore simply a possibility, and not an inevitability at all! Every one of us can take responsibility for our own epigenetic environment by consciously choosing 30 000 different ways of enhancing our health and wellbeing.

The brain is a receiver and transmitter of radiofrequency-like signals. It reads environmental signals, interprets the signals and then regulates the body’s chemistry that controls the genetic expression of the cells. Interpretation by the mind (more than the brain, actually an energy field) is critical because the brain only reads or receives environmental images or signals, but has no opinion as to what those images mean. The mind interprets the environmental signals through the filter of past learning experiences. For example, if a young child experienced the neighbour’s dog as threatening, then whenever a dog is seen or heard, the mind’s interpretation will stimulate the brain to release neurochemicals that control cell behaviour and gene activity to coordinate a protective stress survival response. Once the child grows up, it realises not all dogs are dangerous, and might even have a dog as pet. However, if learnt responses from childhood, are not dealt with as the child is growing up, it may become trapped in cell memories, unconsciously eliciting an inappropriate stress response whenever a dog is seen or heard. This creates long term fear loops, that might ultimately have an impact on the child as adult’s, health and wellbeing.

What is inherited though, might be a way of viewing the world: a safe space, or a fearful place. The developing brain and receptor sites on all cell membranes of a child (receptor sites based on the mother’s emotions, are made long before child birth, to prepare the baby for the world it will enter) perceives images of the world. If those images are threatening, it will release different regulatory biochemical signals into the body, compared to perceiving images of love and acceptance, allowing for a happy, joyful, peaceful world.

Metagenetics: a short introduction to cutting edge science

Only a small fraction (3%) of the DNA molecule has been identified by mainstream science, as the so-called coding DNA that can be observed communicating with RNA to build proteins and, ultimately, organisms. This arrogantly led traditional genetics to discard the other 97% of DNA as ‘junk’! However, since the arrival on the scientific scene, of quantum physics and string theory, the 97% should rather be renamed potential DNA, that actually codes for the purely physical 3% through epigenetic and metagenetic communication via the informational substances.

The Era III bioscience model of metagenetics has examined the nature of potential DNA without old and dated theoretical agendas, with a completely open mind as to how consciousness relates to biology. Potential DNA plays the role of interfacing with our bioenergy blueprint in the morphogenetic field. In this regard, the reader is referred to the vast body of scientific research by biologist Rupert Sheldrake whose Morphic Resonance theory refers to the intergenetic aspect of time-space as morphic fields shared by specific species. These fields unite entire species universally outside space-time, being the regulator then of cellular function and physical expression.

As Sol Luckman says in his book ‘Regentics’, metagenetics encompasses a group of related fields including quantum bioholography, genetic linguistics and wave-genetics, including two of the major premises of genetics and epigenetics:

  1. The coding portion of the DNA molecule is physically responsible for building proteins
  2. Regulatory proteins play an important role in interacting with environmental signals to determine which genes in coding DNA are silenced and which are expressed

Metagenetics therefore includes crucial, irrefutable aspects of genetics and epigenetics and respects the relative importance of both nature (genetics) and nurture (epigenetics) in human experience.

In explaining the role potential DNA plays in the origin and evolution of species, metagenetics reveals that genetics and epigenetics alike control our lives only relatively, compared to the underlying spiritual energy of consciousness, that engenders, supports and develops life.

Transcending both genetics (Era 1) and epigenetics (Era 2), metagenetics (Era 3) comes to the conclusion that the origin and evolution of species are driven neither by coding DNA (3%) nor by regulatory proteins in cell membranes, but establishes that these two basically similar phenomena are controlled, via potential DNA, by what might be called a frequency wave.

The  frequency wave might be compared to a potentially infinite series of radio frequencies or waves coming from a central transmitter or sender of the radio signals, or to the ocean with its endless waves, while still remaining a single body of water. This phrase indicates the process by which chromosomes (coiled strands of DNA) assemble themselves into different configurations designed to translate these frequency waves of sound into light (and vice versa). The existence of the genetic sound-light translation mechanism indicates that the flow of information, or conscious bioenergy, through DNA, is a two-way street.

With the correct equipment, such as the quantum bio-computers used in wave-genetics, it is possible to observe at times subtle, but no less crucial, changes in potential DNA as it becomes activated metagenetically, during healing and transformation.

In both instances, transposons, or jumping DNA, are instructed by potential DNA to shift their chromosomal positions—in small numbers when it comes to healing, but by the thousands during evolutionary transformation. This forms the basis for remissions and miraculous healing, often when no hope is left when only considering Era I Medicine.

In the case of metagenetic healing, while the observable molecular shift cannot be said to transmute one’s basic DNA, nevertheless some genes necessarily are activated permanently even as others are switched off. Therefore, the DNA molecule can be compared to a programmable piece of computer hardware. If you change the frequency wave that moves through it, the jumping DNA will encode it into a completely different form, one of health and healing, the original blueprint of our bodies.

Research and documentation that substantiate metagenetics, are available based on the pioneering work of Russian biophysicist Peter Gariaev, the father of wave-genetics.

Gariaev’s hypothesis that DNA is language-based (and language is DNA based), as a linguistic blueprint, is supported by Gregg Braden’s discovery, as described in his book ‘The God Code,’ that the ancient four-letter Hebrew name for God is actually code for DNA based on the latter’s chemical composition of nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen and carbon. This claim, with its enormous implications relative to DNA’s universal role as a divine language spoken through the body, has been peer-reviewed and accepted by numerous scholars of Hebrew.

Metagenetics is the ultimate healing tool, using light (the different colours of light, but also the light or dark of the thoughts we choose to think, becoming molecules of emotion, that affect the function of our cells) and sound (specific radio frequencies based on the ancient Solfeggio scale and also harmonious music and specific sounds), will support our efforts to reclaim our natural state of health and wholeness.
